Sunny Garcia
Sunny Garcia, born in Waianea on the island of Oahu--the 3rd largest Hawaiian island, discovered his talent for surfing at the young age of seven. He grew up in a broken home and found refuge from poverty in surfing. By the age of 17, Sunny's aggressive nature and competitive drive got the best of him as he quit high school to pursue a career in surfing.
He quickly rose to stardom in the late 80's, but the sudden access to money and independence led to a Hollywood child-star destruction. Drugs and a lack of focus kept him off track. He began a determined recovery after marriage and three children sobered him up. And since 1990 he’s been in the top 10 in the world every year, winning the world title in 2000, rising to third place three times, and claiming four Hawaiian Triple Crown titles.
Sunny starred in The WB reality show, North Shore: Boarding House along with 7 other surfers.
In October of 2006, Mr. Garcia was sentenced to three months in Federal Prison on tax evasion charges. He began his term January 12 of 2007.
