MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour: Stop #4

Stop #4 -- Portland, Oregon/ July 15-16, 2006

Portland is always a solid stop on the Pro Tour, with controlled conditions and large crowds packing the shores at Blue Lake Park on July 15-16, 2006. As the Junior Men's Rip It JX series played out, a new champion was crowned as talented ripper Ryan Anderson found himself on the top of the podium. Pro Wakeskate shredder Reed Hansen threw down one of the most difficult runs ever seen with a 360 shove-it, kickflip, frontside flip, backside big spin. On the way into the dock (out of the scoring course), he even landed a backside big flip, a move that only he has mastered.

Last years season champion, Brandon Thomas rode solid, but wasn't able to catch the crazy run laid down by Hansen. When the Pro Men wakeboard head-to-head bracket started winding down, it was clear that the only the best riders in the world would make the cuts. Riding the wave of his fast building legacy on tour, Rusty "The Bone Crusher" Malinoski took to the wake with a vengeance, stomping two toeside frontside 720's (one in the switch position) as well as a switch heelside frontside 720 to boot. From a small town in Humboldt, Saskatchewan Canada, Malinoski grew up working hard labor jobs like welding and laying sod. But on Sunday he laid down a spectacle of technical wake riding at its finest, defeating Phillip Soven and claiming his first title of 2006, second in his career.
