Who is Chad Kagy? Is he a myth? A legend? Or is he simply a man on a BMX bike with a mission to destroy everything and anyone in his path? Actually, he’s not really any of those things. Instead, he’s just a regular cool dude who can effin tear it up on Vert, Park, the trails, and just about anywhere else you can ride a BMX bike.

The Woodward local is showing the world that he’s a serious force to be reckoned with at this year’s Dew Action Sports Tour. He placed 4th in Vert in Louisville , but had some problems with Park. Unhappy with his performance in Louisville , he came into the Denver Dew Tour ready to step it up. While he still had difficulties in Park, Kagy moved up two places in Vert to finish in 2nd. And if it hadn’t been for that pesky, unstoppable Brit, Jamie Bestwick, Kagy would have dominated the entire field. Overall, Kagy is currently in 2nd with 130 points – 45 points behind the indomitable Bestwick.

Among his many podium finishes, Kagy finished the 2005 Dew Tour in 3rd overall in Vert, just a few points behind Kevin Robinson, fellow Woodward cohort and one of Kagy’s best friends. won Vert at the Latin X-Games in 2003. He has bronze medals in Park from 2002 and 1999. He has even competed in Dirt at the X-Games. In 2005, Kagy also toured with Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom Huck

His favorite tricks include tailwhip variations, superman seatgrabs, and his latest trick: superman seat-grab scissor kick, or indian air. Lat34’s very own Jared Souney, a long-time friend of Kagy, likes to call the trick the happy foot ninja kick.

Born in Gilroy, California in 1978, Kagy started riding a bike when he was four years old. His family was supportive and encouraged him to pursue his talents on a bike. After all, they were very much into bike sports. Kagy started racing BMX in 1988 in the California NBL, but “desired more freedom than a race track offered.” Thus was born his affinity for big airs and long air time.

Kagy has been competing as a pro since 1997 and currently rides for Rockstar Bikes, Mountain Dew, DC Shoes, Camp Woodward , Bell Helmets and others. Outside of BMX, he enjoys riding his custom chopper, photography – which he hopes to make a career out of when his body is too broken to ride anymore, art, hanging with his dogs, and most importantly: playing ping-pong.
